Program Instructions

The Extended Day Program is a neighborhood program that offers an enrichment program for the students of Swampscott.  All programs are offered in the Swampscott Schools.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • Encourage well-rounded development through a variety of planned activities.
  • Provide a safe building based program as well as reliable and caring supervision during non-school hours.
  • Create an environment where students can be a positive, responsible, and contributing member of the community.

Student Groupings

Students are divided into age-appropriate groups each day.  Maximum staff-to-student ratio 1:12 is observed. While groupings vary each day based on enrollment schedules, students will always be with peers during homework.  Younger and older students participate in the program and play in the same space during free play. We encourage age-appropriate groupings during free play.

In order to plan for appropriate staffing, quality activities, and to accommodate many families’ schedules, students need to be enrolled to attend. Parents may choose 2,3, or 5-day program schedule.  Space is guaranteed for students who are registered on a regular monthly schedule, Space is not guaranteed for those students that come as a drop in.

Behavior Policy

If a students’ behavior is consistently aggressive and inappropriate, and staff have utilized all appropriate interventions, and have documentation of 3 incidents, Extended Day reserves the right to have the student removed from the program until he/she can safely return.  Extended Day follows the Behavior Policy of Swampscott Public Schools, which can be found on the school website.
